Bernie Kranz, 78, of La Crosse, WI, Died Friday at Mayo Clinic Health System-La Crosse, WI. He was born  in Mauston on Nov. 7, 1934 to George and Agnes Kranz. He graduated from Madonna High School in Mauston. He then joined the Marines for 2 years. He married Paulette Shankey on June 4, 1966 at St. Stanislaus church in Arcadia, WI.

He went to UW Plattville for Civil Engineering.  He worked for the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation Division of Highways as a engineering specialist for 36 year, where he was project manager on many jobs overseeing the work performed by the contractors.  As well as working on survey crews for new roads including the interstate system in the Waukesha area as well as the La Crosse area,  In the winters he would help review the road construction plans for the upcoming years.

He was very involved in the union at his work. He was President of the State Engineers Association for several years.

He was elevator operater at State Bank of La Crosse for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula, three sons,  Paul of La Crosse, Pete of Tomah, and Scot of La Crosse,  two grand-daughters, Jasmine Kranz of La Crosse and Avery Jo Kranz of Tomah,  six sisters, Bernice Bohen, Veronica Krause, Eileen Cauley, Patricia Voight, Anita Pollard, and Monica Niles and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mary and Evelyn, six brothers John, Edward, William, Leo, James and Harold.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia Street La Crosse, Wis.  Family and friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at church and on Friday, April 19th from 4 to 7:00 PM at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes, 1501 West Avenue So., La Crosse Wis.
