April 14, 1921 - July 4, 2019
Charlotte Krause, 98, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin went to be with her heavenly Father on July 4, 2019.
Charlotte Ann was born at home, 1234 So. 19th St., to Mary and Joseph Urban on April 14, 1921. She was the youngest of three children. Charlotte attended Hamilton Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1938 then went on to attend business school. She later married Edward Krause of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
She is survived by her son Richard (Patricia) Krause of Onalaska and their children; Paul Krause of Onalaska, Mary (Jon) Paquette of Valencia, Calif. and Ellyn (Curtis) Sprissler of Picton, Ontario and her son Christopher (Cheryl) of Stockton Springs, Maine and their children Alison Krause of Somerville, Mass. and Oliver Krause of Santa Fe, NM. Charlotte was blessed with five great grandchildren; Myles Paquette, Walter, Elsa, Iris and Jerry Sprissler.
Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Edward, her sister Estero Schrabeck, her brother Zygmunt Urban and her grandson Owen Krause.
Charlotte retired from Trane Co., after 29 years, in January of 1987. The day after her retirement she began volunteering at St. Francis Hospital. Her volunteer service there totaled more than 16,000 hours, over 2 decades. Several times she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Her hobbies included photography and travel. She amassed volumes of photos of wildflowers, family and her travel adventures. Charlotte traveled to Poland, her ancestral home, East Germany and Australia. She frequently visited New York City and Maine. She had a fondness for Harley Davidson Motorcycles, t-shirts, chocolate and Chevrolets. She once drove her 1957 Chevy 100 mph because she said, “I wanted to know what it felt like to go a 100 mph”. She had a spirit of adventure that got her up in a hot air balloon, in the backseat of a biplane high over the coast of Maine and traveling down dirt roads at dusk in search of moose.
As a widow, Charlotte faced many challenges raising two boys. She saw to it that they attended church and received a Catholic education.
The family would like to thank the staff and administration at Springbrook Assisted Living in Onalaska for the compassionate care given to Charlotte during her final years.
The family would like to recognize and thank Anne and Dave Christianson and family for the loving care and friendship extended to Charlotte over the years.
During her last years she often asked, “why does God keep me here, why is He keeping me around?” She now has a chance to ask Him face to face. God bless you all.
