GEIER, Clarence Vernon

Clarence Vernon Geier, passed away on January 6, 2018, at Benedictine Manor, La Crosse, Wis.

He was born in Pine Hollow, rural Cashton, Wis., on August 30, 1919, to William Apolonia (Schreier) Geier. He was the 3rd eldest of 13 children and attended Pine Hollow School until the 8th grade and worked the family farm.

Clarence was in the US Army Infantry from 1942 – 1945. During his service, he fought in England, France, Belgium, Holland, & Germany including the Battle of the Bulge, 1944. He was awarded 7 service awards plus The Purple Heart, & the Bronze Star Medal.

Following his discharge from the army, he returned to La Crosse and married Janice E. Thompson on June 5th, 1948, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Together they owned and operated an A&W Root Beer stand in Independence, Iowa for many years.

Clarence retired from Paper Calmenson & Co but also was employed at Northern Engraving and Allis Chalmers. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and the annual family reunion in the Cashton Ball Park.

He was an active member of the LaCrosse VFW, The American Legion Post 52, The DAV, The Catholic War Vets and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Janice, their son, Steven of Onalaska, Wis., and daughter, Nancy (Stephen) Rose of La Crosse, Wis.,  and daughter-in-law, Diann (Besch) Geier DiDomenico of Maple Grove, Minn., 6 grandchildren, Christine (Christopher) Peters, Jeffrey (Catherine) Geier, Bekke Geier & Andy Pezewski, Heidi Rose Alberts, Jonathan Rose and Jordan Rose, and 10 great-grandchildren, Abigail & Megan Peters, Sibel Ozer, Clara Geier, Jerome Servais, Ezzie Pezewski, Maxx Alberts, Parker Rose, and Macy & Hayden Rose, and three sisters, Darlene Paulsen, Lavina Flock, and Elrita Meyers.

He is preceded in death by his son, Ronald, his parents, four brothers Leonard, Lawrence, Vernon and infant Robert and five sisters Emma Luedke, Eleanor Crook, Margaret Prestwood, Rosella Oswald, and Marie Gabel.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, in Benedictine Manor Chapel, 2902 East Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. Entombment will take place in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis., at 11:30 AM. Military honors will be held at the Chapel in the Catholic Cemetery at 11:30 AM by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52.

The Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
