Donald (Don) J. Marcou

was born on May 12, 1927 in La Crosse to Edward and Margaret (Coughlin) Marcou.

Donald attended St. James Grade School and Holmen High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from May 1945 through 1948. He was sent to Fort Sheridan for basic training and also 22 weeks at Little Rock, Arkansas for infantry training.

During his military service, Donald was sent to France and Germany to guard prisoners. He was a Technician 5th grade T5. He was a member of the American Legion Post 52.

After the service, Donald worked at Trane Company for a total of 41 years. He was a proud member of St. Thomas More, Mary Mother of the Church since 1957 and was an usher there for 55 years. He enjoyed golfing for 25 years. He was a member of the Friends of the La Crosse Public Library for many years and also a volunteer for the Hixon Forest Eco Park. He also participated in the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010.

Donald and Mary were married December 29, 1956 and have been married for 58 beautiful years.

Donald was a happy, humble family man and loved by all.

Donald is survived by his wife Mary (Winter); one daughter Donna (Gary) Marcou Stafford; one son Daniel (Kristi Degenhardt); one grandson Oscar Henry Marcou; two brothers Edward Marcou and Howard (Joyce) Marcou; one niece Susan (Geoff) Marcou Collins; and three nephews Steve (Jan) Marcou, Terry (Linda) and Tim (Peggy) Marcou.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Oscar Winter, mother-in-law Merceline Winter, Ambrose Marcou, sisters-in-law Esther Marcou, Joyce (Winter) Telles, brother-in-law James Winter, and infant son Anthony.
