Dorothy Ann Opitz, 94 of La Crosse died Friday, February 13, 2015 at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home.

She was born October 3, 1920 to Paul and Anna (Kasprzak) Muetze. She graduated in 1938 from Aquinas High School.  On June 9, 1945 she married Robert Opitz, her high school sweetheart.

Dorothy was a hairdresser at Norma’s Beauty Salon for many years. She was a meticulous seamstress and fabulous cook. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America and a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives.

 

She is survived by her children, Peter Opitz of Oakdale MN, Donna (Larry) Lee of La Crosse, and John (Teresa) Opitz of La Crosse, two sisters, Beverly Fredrickson of La Crosse and Shirley Gentile of Kenosha, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andre’ (Bridgette) Opitz, Troy (Mandy) Opitz, Thomas (Mischelle) Lee, Susan (John) Peterson, Daniel (Allison) Lee and Heather Opitz. She is further survived by her great grandchildren, Jaxon and Jordan Opitz, Isaac Opitz, Jade, Bryce, Aiden, Damien and Brady Lee, Elizabeth and Matthew Peterson, Parker Lee and a great grandson due in March. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2010, her son Michael in 1991. Also preceding her in death was her sister Mary Ann Woodruff in 2008, and her brothers, Paul Muetze in 1991 and Fred Muetze in 2014.

 

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Bethany Riverside for the loving care Dorothy received. You all became another “family” to her.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday February 19, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 South 13th Street, La Crosse. Father Rick Roberts and Father Lawrence Berger will concelebrate. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:30 AM until the Mass on Thursday at the church.

 

The Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Aquinas Catholic Schools Foundation.
