Dorothy M. Blum, 87 of La Crosse, WI, passed peacefully away Monday, April 30, 2018, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center, La Crosse, WI. She was born in La Crosse on January 23, 1931 to Edwin and Pearl Young. Dorothy married Arthur S. Blum on October 7, 1950 at Holy Cross Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, and one sister, Marie Satterfield.

Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Deborah Blum of La Crosse: three sons, Richard (Sandy) Blum of Germantown, WI, Michael Blum of La Crosse, and Christopher (Mary) Blum of Verona, WI: six grandchildren; Joshua, Michelle, Caryn, Tiffany, Samuel and Isaac: three great grandchildren, Brooke, Cadence and Remi. She is also survived by one sister, La Violet Bird of Sevierville, TN.

Dorothy held numerous jobs throughout her life working very hard at: Holy Cross Seminary, Haddad’s Cleaners, Sears, Menards, Walmart, La Crosse Tribune (as a paper carrier even in her 80’s).

The most important part of Dorothy’s life was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren put endless smiles on her face and she loved being a part of their lives as they grew up. She is remembered with love and gratefulness for always helping out her family and friends whenever, wherever she was needed. She had many beloved cats and labs over the years that were a very special part of her life as well. Some of her favorite things she loved doing were gardening, reading, basket weaving, flower pressing, sewing, needle point and cooking. She spent countless hours in her garden socializing with neighbors and friends. In earlier years with her husband Arthur, she was a member of the La Crosse Curling Club, and they took many trips with the family camping in parks throughout the country. She loved visiting her family in Germantown, Verona and her sister in Tennessee. She was a faithful Packers and Badgers fan throughout the years.

Family and friends may visit from 9:00 – 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse, WI. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at 10:00 AM. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate with the burial following at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
