Dorothy Virginia (Ginnie) Schneider

d. November 7, 2015

Dorothy Virginia (Ginnie) Schneider moved on from this world to join her beloved husband George on the morning of November 7, 2015. Ginnie (aka Mom), passed peacefully with family at her side and a full life behind her. Mom was born to Dorothy and Albert Funk on June 16th, 1924, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Mom graduated from Aquinas HS and left La Crosse and the Bluff lined banks of the Mississippi river to complete her education at Marquette University where she received a BA degree.

In June of 1947, she married George William Schneider of Rice Lake Wisconsin. The two proved to be a fruitful couple with eleven children eventually filling their home. Fritz (Kit) and Joan (Ed) were born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With excitement in their eyes and adventure in their blood the couple struck out to Redondo Beach, California to cut a path of their own. And in the process added nine more children to their ranks. Annie (Mike, deceased), Katie (Gary), Hans (Vicki), Chris (Mary), Mary (Jim), Joe (Teresa), Steve (Jeannette), Hank (Karen) and Ginger (Fernando) filled out the team. This brood in turn brought our matriarch 24 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Besides excelling at child production and rearing, Mom was a garden queen, talented cook, volunteer extraordinaire, adventurous traveler, basketball fan and the original do it your-selfer (wallpapering and painting rooms long before the DYI network became popular). At her home family was often found enjoying a breakfast on the patio, savoring the plump strawberries from her garden. She possessed the beautiful quality of not being judgmental to any who crossed her path and a generosity to all that had been blessed to meet her. In addition, she had the patience of Job that kept her above the fray in her busy house. She brought warmth and peace to any room she entered…although she was known to kick the roughhousing kids out of the house to save the furniture. Her wit was sharp and she wasn’t afraid to call you a wimpy woo and suggest that you toughen up. Mom was a teacher of respect, values, hard work, and a good time. Man, we loved our Mother!

Mom is preceded by her parents and three brothers, Albert, Fredrick and Henry Funk, as well as her beloved George. And we are sure, that like here on Earth, Mom will be enjoying a 5 o’clock martini with St Peter, her family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November, 13, 2015, in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse, Wis. Msgr.
