Elginn “Elbow” Mathew Cordes, 35, passed away unexpectedly at his home, on Wednesday December 7th 2016. Elginn was born on April 29th, 1981 to Thomas Cordes and Christy (Beam) Cordes. He attended school in La Crescent, MN (grade school and high school) and graduated in 1999. Growing up, he was an active child. He played hockey, rode dirt bikes, went snowboarding and hung out with his friends. As he got older, in addition to snowboarding, he enjoyed golfing. He also started mountain bike riding/racing. It was at one of these races, in West Bend, WI, where he met the love of his life, Courtney Schultz. They were married on March 14th 2015. Elginn and Courtney enjoyed being outdoors. They loved traveling, bike riding, going camping, and being out in nature. Elginn’s favorite place to go was Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They were blessed with the birth of their son, Ryder Thomas, on July 4th 2016.
After working at various jobs, Elginn decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a truck driver. He attended Winona Technical College. After graduating from College, He started working for Fed Ex Freight in 2010 as a line haul driver. Elginn was proud of his driving skills and competed in the Truck Driving Championships. In 2014, he took 3rd place in the Twins class.
Elginn is survived by his wife and son; Courtney and Ryder, his parents; Thomas (Wendy) Cordes and Christy Cordes (Todd Garbers), his maternal grandparents; Donald and Mary Ann Beam, his Aunt and Uncle; Diane and Jeff Allen, and many other Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Thomas and Lillie Cordes.
Elginn had a crazy sense of humor and lit up any room he was in. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, from 11 am to 2 pm, at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Avenue South La Crosse, Wisconsin.
