Fiona M. King

Beloved Fiona Midori King, 4 1/2 years old, passed away in her parents’ arms December 23, following a courageous battle against GM-1 Gangliosidosis Type I.  Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving parents, her sister, and her Viterbo nursing students.  Fiona’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.  Her occasional smile and sweet sounds melted the hearts of everyone around her.

Although GM-1 made Fiona appear frail and weak, she possessed strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome incredible odds.  At her death, she was the oldest known child living in the country with GM-1 Gangliosidosis Type I.  With her courage, she led her parents to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.  She enjoyed going on walks, being outside, arts and crafts, mommy reading books with her, and listening to music.  Most of all she loved cuddling and being  with her mom, dad and little sister.

With Fiona’s passing we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated.  Although we will miss her every day, especially her occasional smile, she will forever remain in our hearts. Through her teaching us about life, we were able to create unforgettable memories and it has been a rare privilege to be her parents.  Her life was a short one, but a happy one.

Fiona is survived by her parents Paxton T. King and Dee King as well as her little sister Collette Midori King.

Visitation for Fiona Midori King will be from 4-7 on Tuesday at the Blaschke & Schneider funeral home on 1501 West Ave. 

Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at The First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 400 West Ave S.   Burial will follow the service.
