Greg A. Gentry, 64, of La Crosse passed away after a courageous 6-month battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family and friends, Monday, March 28, 2016.

Greg was born on November 13, 1951, in La Crosse, to William and Iola (Bolster) Gentry. Greg graduated from Central High School in 1969. After high school, Greg entered the Navy and served for 6 years on the USS Permit, a nuclear submarine. On October 8, 1977, Greg married his sweetheart Rochelle “Shelly” (Sedbrook) Gentry.

Greg worked at Dairyland Power for 31 years and retired November 2013. He was a long time member of the Holmen Rod and Gun Club. He was a DNR hunter safety instructor and was passionate about trout stream restoration. He was awarded the Outstanding Conservationist of the Year in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Shelly; son Nathan (Amanda); grandson Brayden, and son Travis. He is also survived by his mother, Iola; sister Karen (Alan) Curtis; brother Brian (Cheryl) Gentry, and their children Jake (Crystal) Gentry and Gina (Talan) Patros; mother-in-law Jeanette Sedbrook and all of Shelly’s caring family members.

He is preceded in death by his father William Gentry, and father-in-law Sylvester Sedbrook.

Greg and Shelly enjoyed traveling, camping and hunting with lifelong friends John (Ann) Stahl, Dan (Lynn) Gundlach and Jim (Kathy) Reinard.

A celebration of life will be held at Fox Hollow Golf Course, N3287 Co Hwy OA, La Crosse, WI, on April 9, 2016 from 1 to 4:00 PM. There will be Military Honors provided by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, at 1:30 PM. Family and friends are invited to come share stories and memories of Greg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
