James Degnan - Jim, Jeem or James B Quick - as he was known to the band was a dear friend. We played, traveled and worked together. His construction expertise was invaluable to me as we restored the once dilapidated building that is now my home and studio. He joined the New X Art Ensemble early on and formed the horn section, “The Amazing Tess Toster Tones”, with DL Hunt and Steve Smith. His recordings with New X include, “New X: Xmas”; “Fresh X” and “Trios & Duets”. His dear cousin, Jeanie Martini, joined him with vocals on “Trios”. He played with New X for the infamous performance for cows, “Cow A Bongo; Bongo Bovine”, and traveled to Death Valley for his part in the award winning film “Death Valley Desert Classic”. I could rely on Jim. One tech plagued performance in L.A. had me tied up in wires while the audience fidgeted. It was just the two of us. I asked Jim to fill the void and his notes flowed to soothe the crowd. It was an “LA Weekly Pick of the Week” and he pretty much saved the day. Gabriel make some room for another solid horn.

I haven't seen James since his days of playing music with Jean. I'm sure you and Jean are already jammin'! Rest easy!
