John W. Degnan, 89, of La Crosse died at Hilliview Healthcare Center on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. He was born on April 11, 1926, in rural Winona County, Minnesota to John L. and Pearl M. (Duncanson) Degnan.

He was a graduate of Winona Senior High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Air Force and the Infantry. On June 12, 1948, he married Kathryn (Kay) Logelin in Winona, Minnesota. He was employed by Gateway Transportation Co. of La Crosse for 30 years, retiring in 1988. In retirement he drove cars for Avis Rental Cars and area Auto Dealers. He also drove courtesy Van for Eversole Motors of La Crosse.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling by motor home and camping with the Re-Lax-in Campers of La Crosse for many years. He was a founding member of NAMI La Crosse Co., serving on the Board of Directors and also President for two terms. He and his wife Kay were active in NAMI up until a few years ago. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.

John is survived by three sons; Paul of West Salem, James and John (Jack) Degnan of La Crosse, and one grandson; Christopher Degnan. He is also survived by two daughters; Ruth (Dan) McIntyre of La Crosse and Barbara (Danny) Leoni of Rosamond, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay, his parents, and one sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday July 24, 2015, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 S. 13th St., La Crosse. Rev. Rick Roberts will celebrate, with entombment with military honors by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post No. 52 to be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6:00 PM, with a prayer service to be held at 5:30 PM Thursday July 23, 2015, at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. South. Family and friends may also call from 9:30 until the time of Mass at Church on Friday.
