Kathleen A. Crogan

d. January 28, 2016

Kathleen Ann Crogan, 87, of La Crosse, died Thursday, January 28, 2016. She was born April 11, 1928 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Otto and Anna (Grupp) Kracklauer. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946 after spending a year as a novice at St. Rose Convent. She married Bernard L. Crogan on October 28, 1950 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Kathleen worked as a keypunch operator at Gateway in La Crosse before staying home to raise their six children. She was known for keeping a spotless house, preparing fabulous home-cooked meals and desserts, and sewing most of the girls’ dresses, all while caring for her children. In 1982, she won the grand prize in the La Crosse Tribune recipe contest. She loved to read, knit, and play Scrabble, and she had a terrific sense of humor. She enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers, and rarely missed a game. She was a great friend, always showing up with a casserole when someone was ill or grieving, and always available for lunches out with the girls. She was a staunch democrat and enjoyed working on political campaigns and at the polling place during elections. She was very happy that she had the opportunity to meet President Kennedy while he was campaigning before the 1960 election. But always her greatest enjoyment came from her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by six children, Maribeth (Paul) Shanley, Christine (Thomas) Baker, Patricia (James) LaRue, Julie (John) Wells, Kathleen (James) McLaughlin and David (Deserie) Crogan; 15 grandchildren, Steven (Valerie) Shanley, Sara (Jason) Danielson, Amanda (Chris) Lang, David Baker, Megan (Colin) Krause, Michael (Marilyn) LaRue, Ellen Trester (Michael Stolts), Derek LaRue (Naomi Schutz), Matthew Wells, Anna (Chris) Crawford, Aaron (Jane) Wells, Ian McLaughlin, Emma McLaughlin, Kaylee Crogan and Sabrina Crogan; 14 great-grandchildren, Vivian and Evan Shanley, Carter, Max and Isaac Danielson, Lucas Baker and Jackson Krause, Elliette Lang, Mitchell and Madisyn LaRue, Dilan Trester, Abby and Avery LaRue, and Avery Crawford. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn (William) Welsh, brother-in-law, Jack Magin and sister-in-law, Marian Crogan, a special niece, Barbara Kracklauer and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years on May 17, 2011; her parents, her brother, Robert (Dorothy) Kracklauer, her sister, Anita (Robert) Funke, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ervin, Edwin (Shirley) and Evelyn Crogan, Florence (LeRoy) Strasser and Margaret Magin; grandson-in-law, David Trester, and great-grandsons, Aiden and Samuel Danielson.
