Lorraine P. Meyer

d. December 24, 2014

Lorraine P. Meyer, 89, of La Crosse, Wis., died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, in Benedictine Manor, La Crosse, Wis. She was born in La Crosse, Wis., on July 9, 1925, to Clarence and Elsie (Schultz) Bentzen.  She married Clarence R. Meyer on June 22, 1948, in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Wis. She worked as a seamstress for the La Crosse Garment Company for many years, and later worked for Jack Winter. Lorraine was part of the daily Mass group at the Roncalli Newman Center. She enjoyed crafts, puzzles and scrapbooking. She loved to cook, and was magical with plants. Lorraine was a fan of NASCAR, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed long car rides, and often expressed amazement at the beauty of the Coulee Region.
She taught us that it is never too late to grow. She cast her first vote at age 76 and consented to an article about her in the La Crosse Tribune to encourage others to vote; she was confirmed in the Catholic Church at age 85; she accomplished her life-long dream of visiting Florida at age 88.
Lorraine was a woman filled with gratitude for the kindness of others. She developed a special relationship with her friends at St. Jude Hospice, and looked forward to her daily rides with Amy from ResCare. She greatly appreciated her friends and neighbors in the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Court who were willing to help her with anything she needed.
She is survived by three sons; Richard (Mary) Meyer of La Crosse, WI, Gerry (Janet) Meyer of La Crosse, Wis., and David Meyer of Tomah, Wis; five grandchildren, Marissa, Taylor, Tyler, Heath and Haley.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 18, 1980, two sisters, Ardelle Heineck and Bev Kohlmeier and three brothers, Donald, Le Roy and Rowland Bentzen.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 (Noon) Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in the Roncalli Newman Center, 1732 State St., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. James Kurzynski will officiate with private burial to be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may call at the Roncalli Newman Center from 5 to 7:00 PM on Monday, with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may also call from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass in the Newman Center on Tuesday.
Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Hospice, Catholic Charities or the Coulee Region Humane Society
