Ronald “Ron” R. Fortek, 77, of La Crosse, Wis., died Friday, January 2, 2014, in his home surround by his family. He was born in La Crosse, Wis., along with his identical twin brother Donald on Oct. 2, 1937, Peter J. and Margaret L. (Johnson) Fortek.

 

Ron attended Logan high School, and was a graduate of Class of 1955. He joined the US Navy following graduation from Logan High School and was stationed in Japan for 4 years as a 1st Class Radioman. Following honorable discharge, he returned to La Crosse, Wis., and married the love of his life of 55 years, Jeanne Page, on November 23, 1959 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Ron worked as a Tool and Die Maker for 40 years before retiring from Gateway Machine & Tool and Die. Together with Jeanne, they raised four beautiful children, two dogs, Rust and Rusty,  and watched as their children grew into adults and gave them seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Ron was an avid hunter and shared his love of hunting with his sons. He also enjoyed many hobbies; such as Rattle Snake hunting, fishing, duck hunting, collecting beer cans, painting, tinkering with things, building puzzles and continuous home projects. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas which he always enjoyed with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife; Jeanne of La Crosse, Wis., two sons; Daniel (Christine) Fortek and Tom (Becky) Fortek, seven grandchildren; Kristine (John) Hendrickson, Joey (Andy) Daley, Steven (Jessica) Fortek, Adam (Diane) Fortek, Bobbi (Ross) Pavelski, Rachel and Jordan Fortek, three great-grandchildren; Logan, Nora and Sadie.

 

He was preceded in death by his Parents, two daughters Cindy and Linda Fortek, one brother Donald, and two dogs.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St. Rev. Erik Fieg will officiate with private family burial to be held in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse, with Military Rites by the Roy L. Vinger`s American Legion Post 52. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home-Nelson Chapel, 1007 Caledonia St., La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may also call from 10:00 AM until the time of services in Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday.
