TICHY, Barbara

Barbara Tichy, 93, of La Crosse, Wis., died peacefully at Gundersen Lutheran Health System on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. She was born in Pittsville, Wis., on October 3, 1920 to Frank and Christine (Krivanek) Sojka. She was married to Charles Tichy on August 31, 1940, in Neillsville, Wis. Charles preceded her in death on August 3, 1999.

Barbara was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. She was also a Charter member of the Woman of the Moose, receiving her College of Regents Degree in 1971. In April of 2014, she was honored as a life member for 50 years of service with the Woman of the Moose.

Barbara taught at a rural country school in the early 1940’s. She also did bookkeeping and babysitting. She worked in catering and was a part time waitress at the Moose Lodge for about 20 years. She spent many hours volunteering at the Moose Lodge, along with many hours of enjoyment there. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers and always had a large vegetable garden. She also enjoyed traveling.

Barbara is survived by two sons; Charles of Oliver Springs, Tenn., Ronald (Sue) of Georgetown, Texas, one daughter; Jean (Larry) Smith of Holmen, Wis., and two step-grandsons; Richard (Jackie) Smith and Brian (Carmen) Smith both of La Crosse, Wis.

Barbara is also survived by one sister; Anna Adamec of Neillsville, Wis., two sisters-in-law; Helen Dasko of Neillsville, Wis., and Emily Billings of Davenport, Iowa, and a special friend Bev Mitchell of Peoria, Ariz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Francis and Christine, and three brothers, Wencil, William and Frank.

She will be cremated and there will be no funeral service. A family graveside service will be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Barbara in her late years.
