Obituaries » Carmen A. Myers
March 20, 1936 - December 8, 2018
Carmen A Myers, 82, of La Crosse, died peacefully Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center surrounded by much love and many prayers.
Carmen Ann Nessan was born in South Dakota in 1936, the youngest of six children, to Justin and Tilda Nessan. She married Mike Myers, her high school sweetheart, in the summer of 1960. Carmen and Mike had three children; Steve, Susan, and Shelley.
In 1976, they moved to their dream home on the back waters of the Black River. Carmen went out of her way to be a good neighbor. Her gift of gab made her an easy friend to many. Her memory for people’s names, their stories and the little details of their lives amazed us all. She was quick to send birthday cards and notes of encouragement to all she knew. Carmen was the life of the party whose favorite exclamation was “Let’s boogie!” (before her hip replacements). She did not hesitate to stay up late shaking dice, playing cards, and laughing with her friends and family. Her delightful sense of humor was with her until the end.
Carmen was a devoted wife and mother; she loved her family dearly. She enjoyed having family and friends around the table and was known for her delicious meals, always served with her signature humor.
Carmen is survived by her husband, Mike; her son, Steve (Julie) Myers; her daughters, Susan Brown and Shelley Noelke; 5 grandchildren: Jason Myers, Dan (Jen) Myers, Laura Myers, Sophie Brown and Hannah Noelke; and one great-granddaughter, Elora Lewis. She is further survived by one sister-in-law, Marie Nessan; one brother-in-law, Roy Boeser, and many nieces and nephews.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, three brothers, two sisters, her mother- and father-in-law, a sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at St Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main Street, La Crosse. Rev. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 9:30 until the time of service. Inurnment will be held at La Crosse Catholic Cemetery immediately following the mass.
Carmen’s family wishes to thank Dr. David Momont for his loving and gentle care over many years and her Oncology/Palliative Care team at Gundersen Heath System for their care since her first cancer diagnosis six years ago. We would also like to thank the staff at Bethany St Joseph Care Center and the Gundersen Hospice team for their compassionate care of Mom during the last weeks of her life.
Memorials are preferred to The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, and American Cancer Society.
