DeEtte “DeeDee” M. Gillmeister, 98, died Friday July 31, 2020 at the Onalaska Care Center where she had resided for 2 years. She was born on June 5, 1922 to James and Margaret Moriarity. She married Edward Gillmeister on December 28, 1945 with a sit-down dinner reception in her parents’ home.

Her husband Edward preceded her in death along with one infant son Edward Carl, also a son Gordon John, maternal and fraternal parents, and grandparents, also sisters Carol and Patricia.

DeeDee was a long-time resident of La Crosse, Wis. Where she went to both St. James School and Aquinas High School. She then worked at AutoLite. DeeDee then worked over 35 years at Tom Monsoor’s Gifts in Onalaska, where she resided with her family. They were members of St. Patrick’s Parish.

She is survived by her son Greg (Molly) Gillmeister; daughter Margaret (Charles) Phillips; one sister Mary Dvorak, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

DeeDee loved her family and any type of get-together with all. Many times, she was our lifesaver and was always available for support in any way. DeeDee was always a great listener. Never has anyone with so little, gave so much, so often, to so many. The family wants to especially thank Onalaska Care Center for taking care of our DeeDee when we couldn’t. She was truly loved.

Due to COVID-19, a private family service will be held. Father John Parr will officiate with burial to be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in La Crosse.
