Evelyn Starch

d. December 28, 2011

Evelyn M. Starch, 91, of La Crosse and formerly of Chaseburg, passed away Wednesday December 28, 2011 at St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center.  She was born March 27, 1920 to Stewart and Mabel (Miller) Jehlen.  Evelyn married Woodrow “Butch” Starch at English Lutheran Church on May 17, 1941 in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  They resided in the La Crosse and Chaseburg areas while raising their family.  Evelyn worked for many years at the Chaseburg and La Crosse Post Offices.

Evelyn enjoyed cooking for family dinners.  She was not a gourmet chef, but she was a world-class cook.  She could bake like the best pastry chefs; her children loved her pies and her grandchildren loved her homemade dinner rolls.  Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed spending time quilting with her friends at church.

Evelyn is survived by two sons, David (Darlene) Starch of Chaseburg, and Greg (Sheri) Starch of La Crosse; a daughter Sally (Terry) Sloane of Stoddard; four grandchildren, Troy (Theresa) Starch, Christine (David) Fox, Kimberly Adams, Sheena (A.J.) Schulze; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Jackson, Noah, Nikki, and Aidan; and her brother Bill Jehlen of Escondido, California and by her sisters-in-law; Ethel Bendel, Eleanor Bendel and Beverly Rosaaen and many loving nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow “Butch” Starch.

“A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. following the regular Sunday service at Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church.  Evelyn`s family invites you to join them in celebrating her kind and generous spirit with a family style dinner following the memorial service.”   A private service and interment will be held for the immediate family at a later date.

A Family… A family is like a patchwork quilt,  With kindness gently sewn in,  Each piece an original,   With beauty all its own,   With threads of warmth and happiness,   It’s lightly stitched together,   To last in love throughout the year,    A family is forever.    Author unknown
