John (Jack) Edward White of La Crosse died at home on Friday, August 15, 2014.

Jack was born in Eldora, Iowa on December 26th 1933. His parents were Edward and Ruth White. He graduated from St. Martin’s High School in Cascade, Iowa and Loras College in Dubuque. He served two years in the United States Army in West Germany. He married Loretta Ann Berry in 1960. They moved to La Crosse from Waterloo, Iowa in 1971.

Jack worked at Hawkins, Ashe, and Baptie Accounting Firm as a CPA. He eventually became a partner in the firm. Jack retired in 1998. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman parish serving for many years on the finance committee. Jack was also involved in Serra Club, Aquinas Catholic Schools, and Rotary of La Crosse.

Jack was dedicated to his family and his work. His two other passions were his hometown of Cascade, IA and his adopted home of La Crosse. He loved spending time at his family farm in Cascade and delighted in telling countless stories of growing up on small-town Iowa. The October Fest Parade, boating on the Mississippi, golfing, and dining with friends were just a few of the activities he enjoyed here in La Crosse.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lane White; father, Edward White; sister, Mary White.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lori White; his children Jackie (John) Holland, Portland OR, Mike White, La Crosse, Matt White, La Crosse, Dan White, St. Louis MO, Mary (Steven) Gallagher, Portland OR and Brion White, Bloomsberg PA; grandchildren Brenna Marie Holland, New Orleans, Francis Xavier Gallagher and Sadie Mame Gallagher, Portland OR.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20th at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman with Fr. Daniel P. White, S.J. presiding. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th at the Cathedral. Friends may also call one hour prior to the mass. Burial will follow at the Catholic cemetery in La Crosse.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Aquinas Catholic Schools Foundation, or to the Warming Center of La Crosse.
