Kay M. Simon

December 14, 1945 — January 6, 2021

Kay M Simon, 75, passed away peacefully at home, as was her request, with family at her side on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. She was born in Madison, WI, on December 14, 1945, to Aldro and Inga (Carlson) Wasley and was a 1964 graduate of Wautoma High School. On December 9, 1967, she married Roger Simon in Milwaukee, WI. She and Roger lived in Milwaukee with their two children, Kim and Rodney, until they moved to Marquette, WI in 1974 to provide their children an upbringing away from the busy city. In 1997 they moved to Princeton, WI. After Roger’s death of early onset Alzheimer’s in 2003, Kay moved to Avon Park, FL to be closer to Rodney and his family and for a few years spent summers in La Crosse with Kim and her family. After a few health issues, she moved to La Crosse in early 2019, arriving during the polar vortex, being greeted by a temperature of -37F.

While the children were young, Kay worked as a cook or waitress to allow her to be home with them during the day while Roger worked. Later, her primary occupation was as a bookkeeper for a variety of businesses, including a feed mill and various car dealerships in Markesan, WI Dells, Ripon and Princeton. Kay and Roger traveled annually to FL in the winter and also went on a few cruises and trips to Mexico and Alaska prior to his death. After her retirement, she took up quite a few different crafts including paper toile and painting. She was actively involved with Union Church and with her residential community, Orangewood Acres, in FL. Kay was a deeply spiritual person and was always there to help someone in need, even opening her home to several individuals. Though she was in constant pain due to severe arthritis for many years, her goal was always to have fun and bring happiness to others. She can now once again dance the night away, pain free.

She is survived by her children, daughter Kim (Greg) Werner of Genoa, WI and son, Rodney (Wendy) of Cape Coral, FL; 9 grandchildren, Shane, Kassidy and Branden Smith, Austin, Henry, Sam and Molly Werner, Sierra and Tanner Simon; and special friend Rudy Tijerina Jr, of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, her parents and her brother, John Wasley.

The family would like to thank the Mayo volunteers, Mark and Paige of the Mayo Pulmonary Rehab Center, and Mayo Hospice, especially Trinity and Tuesday, for their compassionate care.

There are no services planned at this time. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Town of Summit Cemetery, Langlade County, WI, at a date yet to be determined.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mayo Hospice, or Union Church (Avon Park, FL) are preferred.
