Miles Gale Olson, 91 of La Crosse died Friday, January 24, 2020 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

Miles was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin on December 22, 1928 to Grace Maude (Hill) and Tennis Olson. While a young child, the family moved to Perkins County, South Dakota where they resided for 10 years. In 1940, he moved to La Crosse where he spent the remainder of his life.

In 1951 Miles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending time at Fort Sheridan, IL and Camp Zama, Japan, working as a Military Policeman. Upon returning to civilian life, he took up the trade as electrician. Miles worked as a union electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers until his retirement in 1991.

On October 17, 1959 he was united in marriage to Jacqueline R. Carpenter in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Jackie preceded him in death in 2012.

Miles enjoyed spending time on the Mississippi River boating, fishing and duck hunting. Never one to be idle, he enjoyed working on projects around his house and neighborhood, especially with Chip and Rick. He had a sense of adventure and was always willing to be a traveling companion with friends and relatives. He will be remembered for his friendship with others — especially those he met at Fayze’s and the Barre Diner, and in particular Sara, Cartney and Emily.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Olson of Lancaster, four children, Brian (Nancy) Olson, Wendy (Mike) Wooden, Eric (Betty) Olson, and Lisa (Chris) McDonald; nine grandchildren, William (Sammi) Martin, Kyle, Nicholas (Christina), Travis (Jessica), and Lucas Olson, Jessica (Josh) Inglett, Brittany (Matthew) Henderson, Taylor Ludwig and Miles Mc Donald; five great-grandchildren, Kolton, Chase and Miles Henderson, Addison and Henry Inglett, and Grace Olson.
