Ronald (Ron) E. Pugh

d. July 4, 2015

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Pugh, 61, of Onalaska, WI, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, July 4, 2015, while surrounded by family after a courageous battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade 4 Brain Tumor.

Ron was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Eugene Pugh and Virginia (Yeager) Pugh on July 20, 1953. He graduated from Washington High School in 1971, and was a proud Eagle Scout. Ron earned an associate’s degree in business administration from Kirkwood Community College in 1974, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1976. Ron spent his career in the area of risk management and insurance. He worked in Des Moines, IA and Muscatine, IA before moving to Onalaska, WI in 1988 to work for Heileman Brewing Company. He then was the Director of Risk Management and Employee Benefits at Ashley Furniture Company in Arcadia, WI for 18 years.

Ron was united in marriage to Charlotte (Blaha) Pugh on March 20, 1976. They have three children: Kevin (Sarah Somsen), Kristin Coker (Olufemi), and Eric (Ellen Christensen). Ron’s grandchildren were the light of his life, and they all adored him: Wyatt, Nolan, and Eli Pugh; Sade Coker. Ron is survived by his mother and siblings – Linda Benson, Dana (Scott) Barton, and Mark (Lisa) Pugh – as well as many other family members and friends.

Ron was a member of the Gundersen Health Plan Board, volunteered as the treasurer of several organizations, and was an active member of the Onalaska Church of Christ, where he faithfully served as a deacon and on the board. Ron enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states as well as Europe and Asia. He took great pride in his professional life and spent his free time camping, fishing, singing in the church choir, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. Above all else, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Gundersen Lutheran Hospice, to Dr. John Trusheim, and to Dr. Charles Clark.

A Memorial visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Onalaska Church of Christ, 1415 Well St., Onalaska, WI. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015, starting at 11:20 a.m. at the same location. Please join us for a reception and party in Ron’s honor immediately following the service on Saturday at the Onalaska American Legion, 731 Sand Lake Rd., Onalaska, Wis. Food will be served.

Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Monday July 13, 2015, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville, Iowa, located on 1st Avenue north of I-80, Coralville, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron’s honor to the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital at https://donate.allina.com/sslpage.aspx?pid=349 or (612) 863-4126, the Courage Kenny Rehab Institute at https://donate.allina.com/sslpage.aspx?pid=355 or (612) 775-2589, or the American Brain Tumor Association at http://www.abta.org/donate/ or (773) 577-8750.

We’re certain that as he fell into his final sleep here on Earth, he awoke in the cabin of his dreams, greeted by his dad, Eugene; sister, Lisa; mother-in-law, Marilyn (Cochran) Blaha; nephew, Vance Burkhart; and all of his other family and friends who preceded him in death. He is now free of the physical hardships that plagued his final years, having his bodily strength and sharp mind restored. As the tumor came to its death, Ron gained his eternal life.

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
