Velma V. Stephans, 93, of La Crosse, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, in Benedictine Manor, La Crosse, Wis. She was born in La Crosse, Wis., on Sept. 19, 1926, to Alvin and Myrtle (Valentine) Danielson. She married Wallace Y. Hisamoto, in November of 1944, she then married James R. Stephans on April of 1948.
Velma was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She graduated from Logan High School. When Velma married James R. Stephans she became a World Traveler. James, serving in the US Airforce his whole career was assigned to many overseas and foreign countries and many states in America. Late in her life, she pursued her first passion which was Nursing.
She is survived by two daughters; Georgia Schilling, Christina (Arthur) Kiemel, two sons; Gary (Carol Stroeh) Hisamoto-Stephans, James R. (Pamela) Stephan Jr., two step-sons; Robert (Patricia) Hisamoto and John (Debbie) Hisamoto, 20 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren, one sister; Beverly Emerson and one brother; Eugene (Sharon) Danielson.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands, Wallace Y. Hisamoto on December 4, 1982, and James R. Stephans Sr., on August 23, 2012, and one daughter Rene Stephans and two brothers Glenn and Maurice Danielson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 (Noon) Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. Larry Hoppe will officiate with burial to be held in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of services in the funeral home on Saturday.
A “Very Special Thank You” to Benedictine Manor, health providers and staff. Gundersen Lutheran Health System, Dr. Mary Bassing, Dr. David Momont, Rachel Keehner PA. Thank you also to her companion Carol Stroeh.
In sending floral arrangements, the family requests that bouquet arrangements are sent, as many will be donated to nursing homes.
