Walter J. Marx, age 89, of La Crosse, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Benedictine Manor, La Crosse, WI. He was born on January 15, 1926, to Christ and Mathilda (Allertseder) Marx in Cashton, WI. He married Patricia Engh, on January 27, 1953 at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI.

Walt served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War 2, and was in the Battle of Okinawa in the Pacific Theater.

Walter worked at Kroner hardware for over 65 years. He loved going into work every day and cared very much for everyone that he worked with. His favorite hobby was collecting tools.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his three sons; Stephen (Kathy) Marx, Greg Marx, and John (Lu) Marx, and his four grandchildren; Kristie (Kyle Konkel) Marx, Wesley Marx, Tyler Marx, and Brett Marx. He is also survived by 2 Great-Grandchildren; Benjamin and Jonathan Konkel, his siblings; Lester, Arnold (Doris), and Edward (Kathy) Marx, Anita (Howard) Olson, and Adeline (Calvin) Horman, and one sister-in-law; Carol Marx.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother; Frances, two brothers; Vernon and Jerry, and one sister-in-law; Lucile Marx.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 24, 2015, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., on the North Side of La Crosse. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate with burial to be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes, Nelson Chapel, 1007 Caledonia Street, on the North Side of La Crosse, with a Prayer Service starting at 6:45 PM.
