Arnold J.P. Burns, age 97, died Tuesday August 6, 2013, at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, Wis. He was born March 13, 1916, in Caledonia, MN, to Edward and Louise (Zenner) Burns.

Arnold was a self-employed carpenter for most of his life, and he served in WWII in both Europe and the Pacific. He enjoyed fishing, oil painting, gardening, and practicing his craft of carpentry.

Arnold is survived by his sister-in-law, Janice Wiegand; five nieces: Patricia Bonsack, Pamela (Ed) Bauman, Laurel (John) Beseler, Lynne Wiegand, and Michelle (Thane) Boge; one nephew, Jim (Kim) Wiegand, and many great nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his good friends Ruby Thompson, Dick Herring, and his friends at the Sweet Shop. Lastly he is survived by his beloved cat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Virginia Mary (Francis) Muehlenkamp, and Edna Pfaff-Olson, three brothers, Arthur Burns, Alvin Burns, and Lloyd Wiegand.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday August 10, 2013, at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St., La Crosse, WI. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate with entombment to be held in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:30 until the time of Mass. The Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
