VOLZ, Bernard “Ben”

 

Bernard “Ben” Volz of La Crosse Wis., died Sunday, July 22, 2012. He was born July 26, 1939 to Bernard J. and Thelma (Haines) Volz. After graduating from Aquinas High School in 1957, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following discharge, he entered and graduated from U. W. School of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist in the La Crosse area for over 40 years, most notable at Osco Drug, and Quillin’s Major Drug. He was an avid sports fan, the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers were his favorite teams.  In addition to sports, he followed the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corp, and enjoyed taking his daughters to the shows.   He loved spending time with his granddaughter Kalyn, and loved his Cocker Spaniel Sammi.

 

Bernard is survived by his daughters; Megan (Wayne) Jorgensen and granddaughter Kalyn and Michelle Volz of Onalaska, Wis. His brother; Richard (MaryAnn) of Fond du Lac, Wis., and their children Susan, Kathleen, Richard, Judith and David; his sister; Mary (Robert) Kachel of La Crosse, Wis., and their children Jean, Robert, Michael, Fr. Steven and James. He is also survived by his sister in law; Shirley of Indianapolis, Ind., and her children Michael, Bernard and Mark. Bernard is also survived by an aunt Delores Stephan and many great nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Thelma, and his brother Robert and one nephew.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 130 Losey Blvd. So., La Crosse Wis. Rev. Steve Kachel will officiate with burial to be held in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse Wis. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be held at 7:30 PM at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may also call from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Thursday.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick’s Guardian Angel Fund or the St. Clare Health Mission Pharmacy.
