David B. Fargo, 72, beloved husband and father, passed away on July 23, 2025. Engaged in one of his favorite pastimes, cycling, he died instantly in a collision on State Highway 35 in rural Stoddard, WI.
Dave was born in Evanston, Illinois on February 17, 1953, to Dan and Sondra Fargo. Dave pursued his dream of a career in music and was a drummer in several bands in his teens and 20’s. Always an outdoorsman, he loved hiking, biking, downhill and cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, swimming, running, canoeing, and most recently, disc-golf. Dave’s passion for music was lifelong, playing guitar and bass as well as drums.
Dave met Margaret (Marge) McVeigh when they were both living in Chicago. They married on March 8, 1986 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Eagle, WI. The young couple settled in La Crosse, WI where Dave had a successful career in IT at Trane Company for 20 years.
Dave is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marge; daughter Ellen Fargo (Phil Paulson), Isanti MN; son Paul Fargo, La Crosse, WI; brother Jon Fargo, Emeryville, CA; sister Sarah Fargo, New York, NY; nephews Andy Fargo , Minneapolis, MN and Chris Fargo, Osceola, WI; brothers-in-law Bob McVeigh, Littleton, CO; Tom (Patricia Scott) McVeigh, Smithville, MO; Jim (Linda) McVeigh, Palmyra, WI; Tim McVeigh, Edgar, WI; Dan McVeigh, Janesville, WI; Rich McVeigh, Fort Atkinson, WI.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stephen Fargo.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse. Msgr. Richard Gilles will officiate, with burial to take place in Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 9:00 AM, until the time of Mass, at Church, on Thursday.
