Donald Leslie Wisong, 97, passed away at home on November 16, 2024, in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Don is survived by his loving daughters, Dawn Marie Wisong Fundell and Lisa R. Wisong Miller, as well as five wonderful grandchildren and nine beautiful great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his dear, loving wife, Irene E. Wisong.
Seaman First Class Donald Wisong proudly served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Hornet during World War II. He performed his duties mainly in the South Seas. Dawn accompanied her father to the National Freedom Fight ceremonies honoring Veterans in March of 2024 in Washington, D.C.
As a father, Don was a loving and committed protector and provider. His family knew his dedicated love for them from his hard work, always providing warmth, health, and safety. Don often sang songs and danced with his girls; he told funny stories, and bought his girls piggy banks, stressing the need for financial responsibility and saving for the future. Don took his family on many vacations and weekend adventures from the oceans to the deserts, from the mountains to the skies. He told his daughters about many wonders of the world and explained so much about how life works. Don was a problem-solver, strong and capable, both physically and mentally, and could fix just about anything. His family was his priority and his pride. We also thank him for the 100’s of movies that he took of our families lives throughout the years, and we are proud of him!
Enjoy your rest Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and friend to so many, you deserve it! You have our unending love!
Donald Wisong asks that any donations in his memory be given to the Humane Society.
