Dorothy M. Franke, 89 of La Crosse, WI, died in her home March 21, 2016, surrounded by the love of her family.Â She was born March 20, 1927 to Arthur and Grace Knutson and grew up in La Crosse with her brother, Manford.
After graduating from Aquinas H.S, she worked for 2 years as a secretary for the FBI in Washington, D.C. She returned to La Crosse and attended Viterbo College. She met and married B. James Franke on December 28, 1948; together they raised their 3 children. She loved spending time with her relatives. Dorothy volunteered at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral and St Thomas More.
She loved to travel, read, flowers and animals. She was known for her wittiness, also for her compassion and generosity for all walks of life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, father, one son, Jay Franke and her husband of 49 years.
Survivors include son, Mark, daughter, Ann, son, Glen, grandchildren; Anna, Stephanie and James, daughters-in-law, Lety and Kathy, brother, Manford Knutson, nieces, Deb and Kate, great-niece, Elena and great-nephew, Eric.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 28, 2016, at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse, Wis. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate with burial to be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may visit from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass in the Cathedral on Monday. A Visitation will be held from 4 to 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. South, La Crosse, WI.
