Elmer Oehler, 90, of Holmen, Wis., died Wednesday September 17, 2014, at Mayo Health Systems, Franciscan Skemp, La Crosse after a brief illness. Elmer was born on the family farm in Moe Coulee on December 21, 1923, to George and Helen (Niessen) Oehler. Elmer went to school at Long Coulee School, a one room schoolhouse. Elmer remained a bachelor and farmed his whole life with his sisters on the family farm. In 2010, he moved to the town of Midway and lived with his niece, Shirley, until his death.
Interests include all things related to his beloved farm, and in his later years, visits there from his great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was most happy when he was riding his Oliver tractor in the fields.
Elmer is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Verna, brothers Earle and Irvin; sisters Ida, Eileen, Flossie, Bernice, and Alice.
He was further preceded in death by four nephews, and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, in the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. Jerry Hatlevig will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 PM until the time of services in the funeral Home on Friday. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A luncheon will be served at the family farm in Moe Coulee at 4:00 PM.
