James L Johnson, aka "Mr. D" age 94 of La Crosse passed away at his residence Sunday, June 21, 2026. Jim was born May 17, 1932 in La Crosse, the son of Ella (Rasmussen) and Arthur Johnson.

Jim grew up and lived in La Crosse his entire life. He graduated from Logan High School, then on October 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Kathryn A. Boyle. Together they raised four children. Jim served his country in the National Guard for 10 years and retired from the city of La Crosse maintenance department where he spent most of his career at the Airport. His wife Kathryn passed away February 12, 2005.

Jim was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and pretty much anything in the woods.

Jim is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Ken) Tritz, Kathryn (Thomas Henchen) Johnson II, and David (Kris) Johnson. Also survived by his grandchildren, Isaak Owen, Kathryn P. Johnson, III, Quintin (Cadie) Johnson and Barett Johnson and his great grandchildren, Austin & Jacob Owen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Eric Johnson and his only brother, Arthur (Gladys) Johnson.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Avenue South, from 11-1pm. 
 Jim will be laid to rest privately, beside his wife at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date

"Come one, Come all" to Jim's home following the visitation for continued fellowship and refreshments.
