LaCrosse

James R. "Peabody" Schultz, age 77 passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Jim was born in La Crosse, June 17, 1948, the son of Irene (Korish) and Robert Schultz.

Jim retired with honors from the United States Postal Service after 32 years working as a clerk whereby he made many friends. He volunteered for the Town of Campbell fire department and was a member of St. James The Less Catholic Church.

Jim had many hobbies and interests. He was a NASCAR (and Dick Trickle Fan #88), loved to play Euchre (and was really good), golf and horseshoes as well. League bowling for Double Deuce (bar on French Island) and the Eagles Club League, he also played in the City Tournament in La Crosse. Jim was also a lifetime Cubs fan (memorabilia collector), Brewers fan (when the Cubbies were not playing) and very big Packer fan. Jim had season tickets to the La Crosse basketball team " Catbirds" who he attended with his mom regularly. Jim played in the "Old Timers" softball league as a pitcher. He raised lots of money for charities and sold many t-shirts and raffle tickets for them. Jim liked to say he was a local patron to many establishments and a bar chip collector as well. When asking what his greatest life lesson are...he responded, didn't need any because he was already a Saint!

Jim is survived by his siblings, Genevive (Don) Braque, John (Connie) Schultz, Gene Schultz, Joe (Bridget) Schultz, Gordon Schultz, Judy (Dirk) Wolff, Gery (Sue) Schultz, Jackie (Tom Peterson) Schultz. Although Jim never had children of his own, he was Godfather to many. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, many friends and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary and sister Gerrie Senn.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Catholic Cemetery, Friday, September 12, 2025. A Celebration of Life is being planned for all Jim's friends to attend.
