James Alois Schumacher, age 83, passed away at home on Thursday, February 1, 2024. He was born March 6, 1940, in La Crosse to Alois & Irene (Stark) Schumacher. Following his graduation from Aquinas High School in 1958 he served in the Air Force for 6 years. Jim met Shirley Clements of St. Joseph Ridge at the Avalon Ballroom; they were married on June 24, 1967. He worked at Trane Co. for 35 years. Following his retirement in 2000 he worked as a courtesy driver at Clason Buick GMC for 10 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1530.
Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children, Brad (Missy) of Burnsville, MN, Amy (Todd) Cina of Oregon, WI, and Darren Schumacher of Madison, WI; two grandchildren, Jarrett Cina of Oshkosh, WI and Alexis Cina of Oregon, WI; siblings Dianne Pogreba, Joan (Francis) Walske, Doris (Rob) Brown, Donna (Steve) Crogan, Jeanine (Dennis) Stancil, and Margie Schumacher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis, sister Judy, and brother-in-law Clarence Pogreba.
The family is grateful to Mayo Hospice (Ellyn, Joy, Sarah, Laura, and Gloria) for their attentive support and care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 8. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate, with entombment, with Military Honors, to be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Visitation will be held at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. South, on Wednesday, February 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 and from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass on Thursday.
