James A. Strasser

James (Jim) Arnold Strasser passed away at the age of 85 on May 22, 2024, in Houston, TX surrounded by his loving family. 

Jim was born on February 8, 1939, in La Crosse, WI to John and Alice (Veglahn) Strasser. Jim graduated from Aquinas High School in 1957. Upon graduating Jim joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1961. 

Jim was united in marriage to Mary Coney on August 22, 1964, and they had two daughters, Susan and Julie. Jim attended the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse and graduated with a BS in Education and later earned his Masters Degree in 1968. He and his family moved to Berlin, WI where he began his teaching career and a few years later moved to Fond du Lac, WI where he taught for many years until his retirement in 1995. Once retired, Jim and Mary moved to Onalaska, WI and spent their winters in Florida. After Mary passed away on January 21, 2019, Jim moved to Houston, TX to be closer to his daughter and his grandsons. Jim enjoyed playing golf, playing cards and following Wisconsin sports, even while living in TX . 

Jim is survived by his daughter, Susan Gutierrez and his two grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Gutierrez of Pearland, TX. He is further survived by his sister Judith Lonkoski, sister and brother in-law Sharon and Tom Tyler, sister in-law Mary Rose (William) Strasser Colclough, brother in-law, James Coney and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years Mary Elizabeth Strasser, his daughter Julie Strasser, brothers Jack and Michael Strasser, sister and brother in-law Diane and Wayne Wheeler, mother in-law and father in-law Elizabeth and Louis Coney, brother in-law Robert Coney and brother in-law Joseph Lonkoski. 

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am on Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1031 Main St., Onalaska, WI followed by a Mass at 10:30 officiated by Msgr. Steve Kachel.

 A private burial for the family will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Julie Strasser Scholarship Fund, University of Wisconsin Madison Law School, 1848 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53726-4090.
