Kathe B. Hoeft, 93, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, April 15, 2021, in Riverside Transitional Care, La Crosse. Kathe was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1927 to Paul and Bertha (Auguste) Falk. She met Bill Apfel while working in the PX and they married in Berlin in 1948. They returned to the states and together had two children, George and Roberta, and later divorced.
She married Thomas J. Hoeft in 1963, and they later divorced.
She worked at La Crosse Garment Co., Grant’s Lunch Counter, Kauma’s Clothing, La Crosse Visiting Nurses Assoc., and Northern Engraving. She was a member of the Hiller Girls Dance Troupe in Berlin as a young woman. Kathe loved to sew and even made her own patterns. She loved and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to her beloved Westies, Mickey 1 and Mickey 2.
Kathe is survived by her daughter Roberta Butterfield; daughter-in-law Annette Apfel; grandchildren Paul (Stacy) Apfel, Jessica (Jerry) Miller, and Katie Butterfield, and great grandchildren Jada and Justice Miller; and Kendall, Corbyn and Caleb Apfel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Kurt; son George; and son-in-law Richard Butterfield.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 22, 2021, in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery.
