La Vina M. Abts

La Vina M. Abts, 89, of Blair, Wis., and formerly of Arcadia, Wis., died Friday, October 30, 2015, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, Wis. She was born in Whitehall, Wis., on August 26, 1926, to Iver H. and Goldie (Moe) Hanson. She married Gilbert “Gil” Haines on May 24, 1952, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia, Wis.  He preceded her in death on December 17, 1959. She then married Bernard “Bernie” E. Abts on October 13, 1962, at Our Lady of Perpetual Care Catholic Church, Arcadia, Wis.

She was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She also volunteered her time and talents at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Friday Fish Fry’s and served on the Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by one daughter; Marie L. (Michael A.) Schneider of Stoddard, Wis., one son; Clyde W. (Janet) Abts of Independence, Wis., five grandchildren; Kyle (Melissa) Abts of Holmen, Wis., Amanda (Greg) Pittman of La Crosse, Wis., Chelsey (Chad) Losinski of Arcadia, Wis., Adam Schneider of La Crosse, Wis., Angie Schneider of Bloomington, Minn., six great grandchildren; Olivia and Bennett Abts, Cullen and Max Pittman, Avery and Easton Losinski.  Four sisters; Marion Kosmala of De Pere, Wis., Carol Haroldson of Sun City, Arz., Lila (Rudy) Smick of Cedarburg, Wis., and Alice Pyka of Onalaska, Wis., two brothers; Harry (Reva) Hanson of Withee, Wis., and Charles Hanson of Grosse-Pointe Farms , Mich. She is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Gilbert “Gil” Haines, her second husband Bernard “Bernie” Abts, one granddaughter Natasha Abts, her parents, one sister Elaine Semb, and one brother Orion Hanson.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 2, 2015, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 223 Maple St., Arcadia, Wis. Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk will officiate with burial to be held in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia, Wis. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the church on Sunday. Family and friends may also visit from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass on Monday.
