Larry L. Eide

Larry L. Eide passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at Oak Park Place, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving daughters.

Larry was born on September 21, 1946, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, to Lawrence and Darlene (Ellefson) Eide. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1964. Following graduation, Larry answered his country’s call to serve and entered the United States Navy in 1964. During his time in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Saratoga, traveling throughout the Mediterranean Sea and helping direct the fighter jets landing on and taking off from the ship. He was honorably discharged in 1967.

After his military service, Larry worked at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant just outside Baraboo, Wisconsin. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, Patricia Campbell. The two were united in marriage on September 15, 1973, and made their home in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, welcoming their daughter Bethani in 1978 and their second daughter, Kimberly, in 1980.

Larry was proudly employed by Trane Company for 38 years as a welder. His skill and dedication in his trade earned him the opportunity to work on specialized projects in New York City, which required his unique expertise. Larry was a hardworking and devoted provider who never missed the chance to work overtime to care for his family, often working several weeks in a row without a day off. During those long days, Pat was often known to bring him lunch and sit with him during his breaks, no matter which Trane plant he was working at that day.

Larry retired from Trane in 2006 and greatly enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his friends, former co-workers, son-in-law Nate and in later years, his grandson Sam. He and Pat also shared a love of travel and created countless treasured memories on family vacations while their girls were growing up. It was not uncommon for the family to be on the road before sunrise, with a car topper packed full of camping gear and all of the essentials for another adventure, whether it be Mount Rushmore or Branson, Missouri. Larry loved nothing more than cheering on his daughters in every sport and activity they pursued.

In 2008, Larry and Patricia celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with a cruise through the Hawaiian Islands. Their deep love for one another, along with their faith and devotion to family, sustained them through Pat’s cancer diagnosis in 2010. Larry remained steadfast by her side throughout her illness and through her passing in 2011.

After Pat’s death, Larry devoted himself to spending time with his children and grandchildren, often making weekend trips to Baraboo and Waukesha. He treasured those visits and the time he shared with the people he loved most.

Larry’s kindness, humor, and generosity will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Though tall in stature, he had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued, always showing a sincere interest in their lives. His gentle warmth, thoughtful spirit, and deep love for his family will remain a lasting legacy.

Larry is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Bethani, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, who did not leave his side during his final days, and Kimberly (Nate) Curtis, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; his grandsons, Sam and Max Curtis, of Sun Prairie, Jon (Alyssa) Leopold, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and Joe Leopold, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; his great-grandsons, Edward and Dawson Leopold; his dear sisters, Linda (David) Herried and Jean (Bruce) Anderson, both of Viroqua, Wisconsin; and his nieces and nephew, of whom he was very proud, Angela (Joe) Hampton, Trudy (Dan) Johnson, Jason (Caitlin) Anderson, and Michelle Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia; his parents, Lawrence and Darlene Eide; his father- and mother-in-law, Vern and Marjorie Campbell; his loving brothers, LaMont and James “Jim” Eide; his nephews, Corey Herried and Thomas Anderson, who passed in infancy; and his son-in-law, trusted companion, and confidant, Alan Leopold.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, at 10:00 am at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Avenue South, in La Crosse, with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, in La Crosse. Lunch will follow at American Legion Post 52, 711 6th Street South, in La Crosse.

Memorials will be given to the Freedom Honor Flight of La Crosse, an organization with which Larry had the joy of participating in May 2024.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff at Oak Park Place, in Baraboo, and Bristol Hospice Services for the compassionate care they gave Larry in his final days, honoring his wishes and surrounding him with dignity and comfort.

Dad, after Mom passed, it was the three of us for so many years, and you were our steady source of strength, always there for us and always giving whatever we needed. You lived your life fully and kept us going with your love, support, and devotion. We find comfort in knowing you are now reunited with Mom and finally at peace.
