With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Lloyd Albert Koenig, 86, who entered into eternal rest on May 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Lloyd was born in St. Augusta, MN, on Sept. 22, 1938, to William and Florence (Voigt) Koenig as the second of five sons.
He grew up on a farm near this small, close-knit community, where he attended grammar school at Meyer School, an historic, one-room schoolhouse. In 1956 he graduated from Kimball High School and attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis to study Electronics Technology, a field he excelled in as a career.
At his first job at Friden, Inc., in Minneapolis, he met Florence Shain, whom he married in 1964. Soon after, Lloyd was promoted, and the couple moved to La Crosse, WI, where they stayed to raise their four children.
Faith, family, service and a strong work ethic were the cornerstones of Lloyd’s life.
In the tradition of his devout German Catholic parents, Lloyd was a man of unwavering faith. He was a reverent parishioner in La Crosse’s Blessed Sacrament Parish for 54 years. Throughout his life, attending mass and praying the rosary brought him great comfort.
Lloyd’s steadfast commitment to family made him a loving husband, an adoring father, and a cherished grandfather. His faith honed a strong moral compass in Lloyd, which he used to gently guide his children to honor kindness, compassion, and hard work. He was a sterling example of how to live a truly fulfilling life.
Faith was also the foundation for Lloyd’s enduring legacy of generously serving others. That legacy aligned closely with the charitable values of the Knights of Columbus, where Lloyd served as a Fourth Degree Knight for 51 years. Also, Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves for 4 years.
Lloyd’s strong work ethic permeated everything he achieved in work and life. As an industry leader, everyone who worked with Lloyd respected his technical prowess. Lloyd was an avid reader and lifelong learner, thanks to his sharp mind, boundless curiosity and wide-ranging interests. He often took courses to quench his thirst for knowledge. Lloyd’s many passions included hunting, fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with household repairs.
Notable among his many cherished qualities were his wry sense of humor, boundless kindness and calm presence, which made him a pillar of comfort--always. He often said with a chuckle, “Don’t worry! I’ll do all the worrying for both of us!” Lloyd’s remarkably kind words always reassured others that everything would be okay.
Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife Florence; his children, Mike (Andrea) Koenig, Stoddard, WI; Lisa (Dan) Seidel, La Crescent, MN; Michelle (Tom) Peterson, Glen Ellyn, IL; Denise (Dan) Richter, Minnetrista, MN; his grandchildren Lydia (Luke) Carlson; Ben (Erin) Seidel; Olivia Seidel; Simon (Caroline) Peterson; Elise Peterson; Evan Richter; Leah Richter; Sarah Koenig; and Hannah Koenig. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Virgil.
The family offers its deepest gratitude to Dr. Cunningham and Dr. Scott of Mayo Health System; the devoted staff at Benedictine Manor for months of compassionate care; and the St. Croix Hospice for their unwavering support in Lloyd’s final moments.
