SHERER, Margaret “Peg” R. Zirckel,

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on August 4, 1917, oldest daughter of Charles and Ruthester (Anderson) Zirckel. On January 12, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard J. Sherer in La Crosse, Wis. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1984.

Peg was active for over 40 years in the Girl Scouts, American Red Cross and Franciscan Skemp Medical Auxiliary. She was also active in the Catholic Woman’s League, AAUW and American Woman’s Voluntary Service. She was a charter member of Franciscan Skemp Auxiliary and served six years on the board of Directors of the Riverland Girl Scout Council. She chaired as the secretary of the Red Cross Blood Drive Canteen for many years. She was a member of Franciscan Skemp Foundation, Viterbo University Foundation Regional Arts Center and La Crosse Historical Society.


She is survived by her daughter; Patricia (Jerrold) Henley of La Crosse, Wis., and her son; Robert (Deborah) Sherer of Minocqua, Wis. She is further survived by her cherished grandchildren; Amy and Sally Henley, Gina (Tom) Phelps and Michael and Matthew Sherer and great grandchildren Ethan, Arlo and baby boy Phelps, nieces and nephews, Mike, Pat and J.D. Mahoney, and cousins very special to her.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear. -unknown

The Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial may be given to the St. Joseph Cathedral, Roncalli Newman Center or Franciscan Skemp Foundation or Auxiliary. Also Holy Family of Woodruff, Wis.
