Mary Jane M. Hackett

d. October 30, 2017

Mary Jane M. (Juen) Hackett, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, October 30, 2017 in Onalaska.

She was born May 30, 1929 in La Crosse, WI (Hungary Point) to the late Oscar and Mabel (Schmidt) Juen, the oldest of eight children.  After surviving polio at the age of three, she went on to graduate from Aquinas High School in 1947, noted for her beautiful smile.  In 1948, she married Raymond Hackett.  He preceded her in death in 1992.

She worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for twenty years before she and Ray bought the Chippewa Pines Resort on the Chippewa Flowage.  There were not many days that you couldn’t find the two of them on the water, fishing or guiding.  If Mary Jane was not fishing or hunting, she would be painting beautiful outdoor scenes.  After retiring in 1990, they continued their love of the outdoors by purchasing a summer home on Lake Holcombe.  In addition to her outdoor hobbies, she enjoyed crafting, painting saw blades, baking, quilting, crocheting, knitting, calling bingo, playing cards and word search.  She loved the Green Bay Packers, and she never missed the Bachelor or Bachelorette.

Mary Jane is survived by her daughter, Doreen Anderson-McHenry (Dennis McHenry); grandchildren, Jeffrey Anderson (Melissa Wolf), Laureli (Michael) Becker, Thomas (Jamie) and Michael McHenry; seven great grandchildren; brother, Donald (Lois) Juen; and in-laws, Roger Ebert, Mary Ann, Charlene, Ruthann and Virginia Juen.

She was preceded in death by son in law, Thomas Anderson; siblings, Jerry, Duane, Kenneth and Richard Juen, Eleanor Ebert and Darlene Haines; sister in law, Judy Juen; and special friend, Forest Bacon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at St. James the Less Parish, 1032 Caledonia Street, La Crosse with Father James Altman.  Visitation will be held 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1007 Caledonia Street, La Crosse and half an hour before the funeral mass.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Onalaska for their wonderful care and friendship over the last seven years.
