It is with heavy hearts but thankful prayers we announce the passing of Mary Kay Skemp, 81, at her home in La Crosse on November 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Kay was born June 20, 1944 in Madison, WI to Ralph and Mary Jane (nee Koppelberger) Hartman. She met Peter Skemp in the summer of 1962 when he drove past her with his shirt off and stopped and introduced himself. Seriously. They married on January 26, 1966 at St Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse. They moved several times before settling in La Crosse in 1969.
Wife, mother, grandma, aunt, sister, friend, prayer partner, teacher...just a few of the roles she had that touched so many lives. Mom loved and was loved! Her sense of humor, curiosity, smile, and friendly disposition made her who she was. We are eternally grateful to have had her in our lives, as are many who knew her.
Mary Kay is survived by her husband of almost 60 years Pete, daughter Katy (Bruce) Urbas and their children Alex (fiance Eliza) and Samantha, son Greg (Tanya) and their children Michael and Anna; brother Jim (Janet) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Baba (her grandmother), her in-laws, Dr George and Mary Skemp, all of her brother and sister in laws, and two beloved dogs.
