Mildred A. Lundsten

August 21, 1929 — May 3, 2021

Mildred Agnes Lundsten, 91, of La Crosse, WI, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021, at the Benedictine Villa Assisted Living facility in La Crosse. She was born on August 21, 1929, in St. Mary’s Ridge to William and Josephine (Gronemus) Butzler. Her mother died when she was 14 and Mildred helped raise her four younger siblings.

Mildred worked as a member of the La Crosse Public School System Nutrition Program from the 1970s until retirement in 1995. She will be remembered for her terrific cooking and baking along with her love of dancing and card playing, especially Euchre and Hearts.

She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her children, Mary Jo (Daniel) Lorden of Des Plaines, IL, Steven (Patricia) of La Crosse, Patricia Steger of Ely, MN, Paul (Susan) of Fitchburg, WI, Joan (Harley) Orr of La Crosse, and Roger (Susan) of La Crosse; siblings: James, of Marshfield, Missouri, and Marlene (David) Tritch, of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren: Seth (Kelly) Wohnsen of Ely, MN, Ry Wohnsen of Jackson, WY, Ann (Michael) Boyer of Geneva, IL, Karen (Paul) Kwon of Hoffman Estates, IL, Loni (Curtis) Andreen of Madison, WI, Sam Lundsten of Madison, WI, and Emma (Sam) Vincent of Little Rock, Arkansas, and step-grandchildren Harley Jr. and Adam Orr, and Dane Crozier; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Nels Irving “Swen” Lundsten, who passed April 18, 1996, and her siblings Walter Butzler, Elrita Fuller, Werlyn Butzler, and Carol Smith. She and Nels were active members of the Moose Lodge and the Sons of Norway. Mildred was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for many years.

The Lundsten family will be forever grateful to the staff at Benedictine Villa for the care and love they provided to her. She truly thought of them as family.

A private prayer service will be held for the family, conducted by Fr. Rick Roberts of Holy Trinity Parish. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Clair Health Mission, to the Gunderson Medical Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
