MATTINGLEY, Robert J.
Robert J. Mattingley, 42, of La Crosse, Wis., lost the battle with his mental illness on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. He was born in Sidney, Montana on Feb. 1, 1975, to Robert and Carol (Beall) Mattingley. He married Jennifer Ullrich on Aug. 24, 1996, in Broadus, Montana.
Rob (RJ) attended and graduated high school in Sidney, MT and went on to Montana State University graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. His first job out of college was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He taught in a one room school house in Lodgepole, South Dakota, grades 4-8. He taught there for two years before returning to school at the University of North Dakota for graduate school.
Rob (RJ) will be forever remembered for his love of his children. He was a dedicated stay at home dad after giving up a teaching career to raise his children. He spent many hours taking the kids boating, camping and supporting them throughout all of their many activities.
He also had a love for hockey. He made it his passion to build youth hockey in La Crosse. He served as the president of River City Youth Hockey for 3 years as well as coaching many seasons. He was never happier than the time he was at the rink. He loved watching Taylor, Leah, Hudson and his billet players Ethan, Andrew and Toon, play hockey. He thoroughly took pride in watching the many young athletes that he coached improve, but mostly impressed upon them the love of the game.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, of La Crosse, WI., one daughter Leah, and two sons: Robert “Taylor” and Hudson Mattingley all of La Crosse, WI, his parents; Robert and Carol Mattingley of Menoken, North Dakota, one brother; Scott Mattingley of Grand Forks, North Dakota., his paternal grandmother; Deliva Mattingley of Bainville, Montana. plus many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Grant & Marie Beall, and his paternal grandfather, Robert E. Mattingley.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, WI. Rev. Matthew Schroeder will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 9:00 AM until the time of services in the funeral home on Saturday.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gundersen Health System and Behavioral Health staff and a special thank you to Reverend Matthew Schroeder.
