KACHEL, Robert W.
Robert William Kachel, 88, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, September 16, 2018, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 20th,1930, to Clarence and Rose (Roubik) Kachel. Robert graduated from Aquinas High School in 1948, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp.
S Sgt. Robert W. Kachel USMC served in the military for 42 years including active and reserve duty. A Korean War veteran, he fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in 1950 and was honored with the nickname “The Chosin Few”. After the war, he began his work as an electrician for his uncle at Mutch Electric. In 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Volz, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He continued his work as an electrician at Wettstein and Sons, and then served more than 20 years as the Electrical Inspector for the City of La Crosse. He was a proud member of the IBEW and a strong supporter of the Aquinas Booster Club, Blessed Sacrament Parish, and a distinguished member of the Bishop Schwabach 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, La Crosse, Wis.
Robert is survived by his wife Mary, their children Jean, Robert (Diana), Michael (Denise), Msgr. Steven and James (Julie), grandchildren Chris, Tim (Ellie), Matt, Bob, Monica (Andrew) Lentz, Molly, Katie, Tyler, and Stephanie. The newest twinkle of his eye was his great-grandson Will Kachel.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, a granddaughter Angela, and his brother George who passed June 2, 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday September 24, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd. So., La Crosse, Wis. Msgr. Steven Kachel will officiate. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery with Active Duty US Marine Corps and the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse, Wis. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the Blaschke Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. So., La Crosse, Wis., from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary to be held at 4:00 p.m., and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until departure to the church from the funeral home. No visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Monday in Blessed Sacrament Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Aquinas Booster Club or The Blessed Sacrament Endowment.
