Steven M. Geier

Steven Michael Geier was the kind of man who made people feel seen, accepted, and safe. Someone whose quiet courage and humor stayed steady even when life grew difficult. Steve loved deeply, forgave easily, and carried an authenticity that made him unforgettable.

He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Geier, his mother Janice Geier, and his brother Ron Geier.

He leaves behind his daughter Bekke Geier (Andy Pezewski) of Madison, Wisconsin; his grandson Jerome Hammes of Madison; his granddaughter Ezra Pezewski of Madison; his sister Nancy Rose (Stephen Rose) of La Crosse; and his sister‑in‑law Diann DiDomenico of Corcoran. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and will carry his memory forward with pride when they speak fondly of their Uncle Gary.

Steve deeply loved the city of La Crosse. He collected Oktoberfest buttons, treasured Old Style beer, and was proud to have retired from City Brewery, even long after Old Style was no longer brewed there. His joys were simple, familiar, and deeply rooted in the place he called home.

One of Steve’s sweetest lifelong traditions was visiting The Sweet Shop, or as he and his brother Ron called it in childhood, “Saint Earl’s.” Every Valentine’s Day, without fail, he gifted boxes of Sweet Shop chocolates to his family. Those boxes will be missed almost as much as the man who gave them.

He loved country music, cowboy boots, Levi’s denim, pink hats and the Green Bay Packers. He loved the rhythm of everyday life, the comfort of routine, and the small pleasures that made the world feel steady. His heart was enormous and his courage quiet but fierce.

His legacy is one of kindness, authenticity, and deep-rooted loyalty. His family will miss him beyond measure and will carry his memory forward with gratitude and love.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 am Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Onalaska with a funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am. Interment with military honors will take place at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.
