Thelma L. Urbanek, 91, of La Crosse, Wis., went home to be with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis. She was born in Viroqua, Wis., on May 18, 1924, to Alvah W. and Emma L. (Brandt) Marshall. She married Arthur E. Urbanek on Sept. 21, 1943, in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, West Salem, Wis.
She attended La Crosse Central High School. Thelma was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Thelma enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.Â She loved to crochet and knit. She was a great source of information in this art and inspired the ladies in the crochet club. Thelma loved to listen to Country and Westerm music and also loved to dance. She loved being with friends, family and grandchildren, it meant a lot to her.
She is survived by her daughter; Lorraine E. (James D.) Harnwell of Westby, Wis., one son; Donald A. (Joyce C.) Urbanek of Holmen, Wis., four grandchildren; Brian Urbanek, Shelly (Donald) Button, Donald and Scott Urbanek, four step-grandchildren; Tammy (Keith) Burrel, Julie Bell, Brenda Peterson and Brian Peterson, 10 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur E., on Apr. 27, 2000, her parents, one brother Alvah W. Marshall, and one step granddaughter Linda Troutman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 20, 2016, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Sill St., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. Erik Feig will officiate with burial to be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of services in the church on Wednesday.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.
