Therese Skemp

Therese H. Skemp, 86, of La Crosse passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. 

Therese was born on March 4^th, 1937, to Dr. George and Mary (McManus) Skemp. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Aquinas High School, graduating in 1955. Therese then worked many years in Milwaukee before returning to her hometown to assist in caring for her aging father. 

With desire to further her education, she then went on to earn a Bachelors Degree from Viterbo University in La Crosse and a Masters Degree from St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN. Therese’s Catholic Faith was always paramount throughout her life. She believed that it was of utmost importance to help the less fortunate. Many Missions benefited from her generosity, often to the deprivation of her own needs.

Therese is survived by her brother, Peter (Mary Kay) Skemp of La Crosse.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers: George Jr., Michael (Laural) Daniel (Eliza “Tucky”) and two sisters: Margaret (Robert) Gavahan and Sarah “Sally”. Therese also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in La Crosse at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse. 

The family prefers memorials directed to the St. Clare Mission.

Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home in La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.

Therese’s family would like to thank the staff at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center for the exceptional care they gave to Therese, and also to Sandy Poehling for her many years of care and support to Therese, and especially during the last few months.
